DOUBLE FOR UGANDA- That deserves a “Ruhi”

The just concluded level one training in Uganda that took place in August was probably one of my best experiences in many years. You should give me a “ruhi” for that! Do I hear an “Amen” from those who attended the Anglican Church of Uganda Kampala Diocese hosted training at Bugolobi church of Resurrection? The password for every session soon became “ruhi” and trying to explain the meaning of this word here may not help much. Maybe you just need to check the video clip on our international blog to appreciate its usage. We had a class of about 25 students who faithfully sat at the feet of the apostles (Acts 2:41-42) I mean the one and only Founder President and faithful friend Rev. Chris Davis took us through this unique leadership empowerment seminar assisted by the Africa team.

Now, you must be asking what I mean by double for Uganda! We were in Uganda for two major calendar events. First, it was the fulfillment of the scheduled level one training which went down very well as I have already mentioned (see accompanying pictures). The GYMN Africa team as well as our International Director Chris Davis were also invited to participate in the Bugolobi Annual Youth Conference hosted by the Disciples Youth Fellowship (DYF) in partnership with the Church of Resurrection Bugolobi Parish in the Diocese of Kampala Uganda. This conference brought together several African nations for a week long conference and youthful ministry to delegates from the various countries under the Theme: THE PURSUIT OF GOD! (See pictures).

Back to the training: We were privileged to have the Bishop of Kampala (who was our host joining us for a whole morning session). Rt. Rev. Dr. D’Zac Niringiye took active part in the morning discussion during the fifth session on Youth Evangelism and easily mingled with the students apart from challenging the leaders on the focus of evangelism to youth. As you go through the picture profile don’t miss the guy with the grey beard (Uncle Zac)- “the game in question is Rub a dub a rub rub”-hope I got that right!!

I would have let myself down and abused the courtesy of our wonderful Uganda Host pastor and his sweet wife Marcus and Doreen Kiryowa if I don’t confess that I added a few more pounds after this trip because of the sumptuous and generous servings of the unique Uganda dishes. The matoke (mashed bananas) and roast goat meat being washed down by the Mountain Dew (soft drink made in Uganda) deserves a special mention here. The menu is too long for this space so again take time and enjoy the photos!

Finally, I want to take this opportunity to thank the Organizers of the BAYC 2009 International Conference for their faithful partnership and for bearing a big vision for youth as well as pioneering and supporting the strong network of youth ministries and ministers across Africa. Because of this forum, God led us to connect with youth leaders from Egypt, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and Sudan to mention a few.

As the Apostle Paul would do- I take this opportunity to appreciate fellow laborers in the Lord’s Vineyard Billy Birungi, Rev. John Audi, Rev. Michael Mukhwana(you taught me humility), Patricia Achipa(our faithful servant), John Musa Lakor, Maliko Moreen and Constance Manake (daughters). If you would like to host a youth leader’s training in your country feel free to contact us on africa@global-youth.com. Get ready Cameroon!! We are coming in November.

Mukama abaw’ omukisa!!!

Ken Aringo (Passie) aka Daddy (Africa Director).
